A Structural preset decides the layout of a page type — which blocks appear and how they’re arranged. It is the structure layer of the three-preset model: it controls arrangement, not colour or decoration (those are Style and Theme).

Page types

A storefront isn’t one page — it’s a set of page types, each with its own layout. The structural preset defines a layout for each:

Homepage

Hero, featured categories, promos, content rows.

Category / listing

The product grid, filters, sorting, banner.

Product (PDP)

Gallery, title, price, add-to-cart, tabs, related.

CMS / content

Generic content pages synced from Magento.

The page also has shared chrome — the header and footer — which appear on every page type and have their own variants (see below).

Choosing a structural preset for each page type

The Structural Presets screen lists one row per page type (Homepage, Category, Product, Header, Footer, and so on). You assign a preset to each page type independently — there’s no single “activate” button for the whole store.

1. Open Structural Presets in the sidebar.

2. Find the page-type row you want to change (e.g. Product).

3. In that row’s Structural Preset dropdown, choose the preset you want.

4. Click Save on that row (the Save button appears once you change the selection). That choice becomes the active layout for that page type.

5. Prebuild so the change reaches the live storefront.

Each row also has an Edit Design button — which opens the page editor on that page type’s currently-active design — and a Deactivate button, which clears the saved layout for that page type so you can pick a different preset and Save again.

Saving a row changes the live store

Saving a page-type row switches the layout for every page of that type once you Prebuild. On a production store, make the change, check it in the editor canvas (the canvas is the live preview — there’s no separate Preview button), and Prebuild in a quiet period.

Creating your own structural preset

You don’t edit a built-in preset directly — you fork it into one of your own. There are two routes:

From an existing preset

1. Open a preset and click Edit Design on the page type you want to change. This opens the page editor.
2. Make your changes.
3. In the Save menu choose Save as new preset…, give it a name, and save. This creates a custom preset without going live.
4. Back on Structural Presets, select your new preset in the relevant page-type row’s dropdown, click Save, then Prebuild.

From blank

1. Click Create New Preset → Open Blank Editor for the page type.
2. Build the page up from blocks in the page editor.
3. Save as new preset…, name it, and activate when ready.

Your custom presets appear on the Custom Presets screen as well, filtered to the ones you’ve made.

Header, footer and product-page variants

Some parts of the store ship several ready-made variants you can swap without opening the full editor. The three big ones to know:

Header (3 variants)

The site header has three layouts — for example a classic centred logo, a left-aligned logo with inline nav, and a compact/utility bar style. Pick the one that suits your brand.

1. In the editor, select the Header block (or use the header section of the structural preset).
2. Open the Variations tab in the right-hand panel.
3. Apply the variant you want (see two-click apply).
4. Save and Prebuild.

Footer variants

The footer ships multiple variants (e.g. a rich multi-column footer, a compact single-row footer, a newsletter-forward footer). Swap them the same way: select the Footer block → Variations → apply → save → Prebuild.

Product page variant

The product (PDP) layout has variant options too — for example gallery-left vs gallery-top, or a sticky add-to-cart. Open the Product page type in the editor, select the relevant block, and switch its variant in Variations.

Variants vs presets

A variant is a ready-made layout for one block (the header, the footer, the category grid). A preset is a saved layout for a whole page type (or the whole store). Use variants for quick swaps; save a preset when you want to keep a whole arrangement.

What happens when you save a row

1. That page type now uses the selected preset as its active layout (the row’s status shows as active).

2. Pages that are already prebuilt keep showing the old layout until you re-Prebuild.

3. After a Prebuild, every page of each type is rebaked with the new layout and goes live.
